The Mechanical Project Engineer will report directly to the Project Engineering Manager and will be an integral part of a team dedicated to executing engineering projects for a series of utility-scale hydrogen-ready gas peaking and energy storage initiatives. The initial focus will be on a significant hybrid battery and thermal project.
Key Responsibilities1. **Design Coordination for Mechanical Engineering Packages:**
- Facilitate the integration of design inputs from all contractors engaged in site design.
- Proactively identify and address design challenges, escalating issues to the head of engineering when necessary.
- Lead design coordination meetings among contractors, ensuring accountability for engineering packages.
- Maintain a design register and provide consistent updates to the project team.
- Oversee contractor deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of design outputs.
2. **Document Management for Mechanical Engineering:**
- Administer all mechanical and process drawings and calculations essential for the project.
- Ensure that all contractors utilize the most current revisions of drawings and calculations throughout the design, development, and construction phases.
3. **Communication of Design Information:**
- Be present on-site at least one day per week during the construction phase.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess design progress and assist the project management team with any design-related challenges that arise.
4. **Future Project Design Development:**
- Assist the Engineering Director in formulating designs and specifications, as well as evaluating contractors for upcoming battery and hydrogen-ready gas peaking plants.
5. **Owner's Engineer Role:**
- Review mechanical design work performed by contractors for both their projects and those managed by the team.
6. **Mechanical Design Specification:**
- Provide high-level specifications for mechanical design associated with hydrogen-ready gas peaking projects.
7. **Representation in Meetings:**
- Act as a representative for the company in discussions with designers, suppliers, and on-site teams.
It would be advantageous for the Mechanical Project Engineer to possess some or all of the following competencies:
- Familiarity with gas engine project design.
- Understanding of electrical safety regulations up to 400kV.
- Experience in gas peaking plant construction.
- Proficient in process engineering, including the ability to interpret PFDs and P&IDs.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D CAD design.
• MEng in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
Experience3-10 years of experience in an EPC or energy generation context, specifically within gas peaking plants, energy storage, wind, or solar projects supporting construction initiatives.
Development OpportunitiesWorking alongside a dynamic team on the construction of innovative generation facilities will provide the successful candidate with invaluable real-world project experience. In the long term, the candidate can anticipate involvement in the delivery of gas peaking and battery projects, including a major integrated hydrogen-ready gas peaking and battery plant. There will also be opportunities for professional development support.
