Job Title: Senior Mechanical Project Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to lead our Mechanical CRE team on the HS2 Old Oak Common project. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering the design, installation, and commissioning of Mechanical systems, ensuring successful project delivery from a HSE, programme, quality, and compliance perspective.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead a small Engineering team to deliver the design, installation, and commissioning of Mechanical systems.
  2. Undertake Mechanical design review in line with current project applicable HS2, NR, BS, EN, and ISO standards.
  3. Manage a 3rd party design consultant in delivering design deliverables required for the project.
  4. Liaise with the main Contractor (BBVS), HS2, and HS2's Designers (WSP) to review comments and agree an efficient way forward.
  5. Ensure design risk assessment is compliant with installation parameters.
  6. Provide engineered solutions to key project problems to satisfy client expectations, project restrictions, and budget considerations.
  7. Direct liaison with CAD/BIM team to ensure correct drawing modelling to BIM or other standards.
  8. Attend and participate as the Mechanical lead in interdisciplinary design reviews and checks (IDR/IDC).
  9. Support and where required, carry out the Commissioning of Mechanical Systems.
  10. Carry out site surveys/visits for project purposes, including identifying scope, improvements to systems, dilapidation, and design requirements.
  11. Direct liaison with installation teams to ensure design suitability, works methodology, and solve key installation issues/constructability.
  12. Working with the commercial department to track technical or design change and variances.
  13. Working with the planning department to plan design, installation, and T&C works, providing accurate assessment on forecast works to complete and suitable readjustments to ensure project programme is maintained.
  14. Management of subcontractor works as appropriate, including assisting commercial department in valuation and contract support.
  15. Ensure design and works comply with client quality management systems.
  16. Keep up to date with all Mechanical, construction, and relevant legislation, law, standards, and best practice.

Line Management Duties:

  1. Management of the Mechanical engineering teams.
  2. Training and mentoring of the Mechanical engineering team and Mechanical design team.

Person Specification:

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Knowledge of relevant Mechanical installations legislation and standards, BIM, and design modelling standards, and all other associated standards and legislation.
  2. Advanced MS Office skills, including Excel.
  3. Utilisation of MS Project or P6.
  • Large HVAC systems, including heat pumps.
  • Fire-rated ductwork.
  • Staircase pressurisation systems.
  • Smoke clearance.
Knowledge of implications of offsite construction to design.Revit (or equivalent BIM product).Utilisation of Mechanical design packages (HEVACOMP, IES, etc.).Utilisation of pipe stress analysis software (AUTOPipe or CASEAR II).Awareness of DSEAR/ATEX requirements and obligations as designer and installer.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  2. SMSTS, SSSTS, or IOSH Managing Safety.
  3. CSCS Card – AQP or PQP minimum.
  4. Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  5. Project management qualification, APM, PRINCE 2, or equivalent.
  6. Formal HSE training, NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
  7. DSEAR & ATEX formal training.
  8. Flexible, 'can do' attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Flexible approach – willing to work out of hours, including travelling nationally and internationally, nights, and weekends where applicable.
  10. Good contractual and commercial awareness.
  11. Ability to mentor apprentices, graduates, and Mechanical engineers.
  12. Liaise and educate other areas of the business on Mechanical Engineering technical matters.

Experience:

  1. Seven years' experience within a similar Mechanical Engineering position.
  2. Mechanical Design.
  3. Previous experience within an M&E contractor.
  4. Previous experience on Network Rail projects.
  5. Previous experience on large railway station projects.
  6. Commissioning.
