Job Title: Fire Safety Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Safety Advisor to join our team at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our patients, staff, and visitors by providing expert guidance and support on fire safety matters.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing technical and professional advice on fire safety to all levels of management and staff
  • Conducting fire risk assessments and reviews in all premises managed by the Trust
  • Implementing corrective work in areas where fire risk assessments and reviews have highlighted remedial work is needed
  • Coordinating and implementing fire safety training programs for staff
  • Working closely with the Fire Officer and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and standards
Key Responsibilities

The Fire Safety Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Visiting all areas of the Trust on a regular basis to ensure standards of fire safety are maintained
  • Ensuring that fire safety standards meet those set out in documents issued by the Department of Health and within the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Providing advice on structural fire safety for existing and new buildings and proposed alterations to buildings
  • Inspecting buildings or alterations following completion and certifying compliance with the relevant NHS Firecode and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Reviewing new fire safety legislation and regulations and providing briefing notes and draft policies and procedures for comment/approval by appropriate meeting groups
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree-level qualification or relevant demonstrable experience in fire safety auditing and compliance
  • Membership of a professional organization (for example, the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO))
  • Training in healthcare fire safety
