Overview:

This position focuses on delivering engineering assurance for design and construction operations specifically related to railway structures, encompassing both masonry and steelwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement systems and procedures to ensure a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, and commissioning activities on relevant projects, in compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of design and construction processes. Organize audits of contractors to ensure that safety, environmental, and quality standards are upheld throughout design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Oversee design and construction aspects of projects to ensure compliance with current legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.
  • Provide expert project management guidance regarding all construction activities, including site supervision and testing.
  • Evaluate the competence of project and engineering roles.
  • Engineer projects to meet the standards and specifications set by Network Rail, ensuring compliance with relevant Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of a Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for multi-discipline projects as per Network Rail standards.
  • Identify and disseminate best practices within the team.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in engineering disciplines, with a background in construction and design projects across multiple disciplines.
  • Technical qualifications at HNC/HND level or equivalent GNVQ.
  • Strong understanding of CDM, risk assessment, engineering management, and quality assurance principles.
  • Membership in a relevant professional organization.
  • A professional demeanor, with the ability to self-organize and motivate.
  • Personal Track Safety qualification or the ability to obtain it within the probationary period with support.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in structural engineering, particularly with masonry and steelwork.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Membership of a relevant professional body and/or a degree-level education.
  • Familiarity with structuring safety cases to support projects.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for remote site locations.
  • Possession of a valid UK driving license.
