Job Summary

The Councillor Support Manager plays a vital role in supporting the political leadership of Leicestershire County Council. As a key member of the Executive and Majority Support Team, you will provide administrative support to the Leader of the Council, Executive Lead Councillors, and the majority group of Labour Councillors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the political leadership, including forward planning, briefings, and advice on communications and policy issues.
  • Offer logistical support for the Executive, Civics, and the wider majority group of councillors.
  • Support and plan event management relevant to the Leadership, Executive, and Civics.
  • Advise and support councillors and managers on administrative and operational issues.
  • Make decisions and use initiative when interacting with citizens, councillors, and senior colleagues with complex situations or behaviors.
  • Work with tact and diplomacy in a confidential and politically sensitive environment.
  • Provide technical support for the planned and efficient provision, installation, maintenance of all IT equipment, software, and services.
  • Present information in briefings and communicate effectively in both formal and informal meetings.

Requirements

  • Experience of overseeing a wide range of administrative duties in a busy environment.
  • Ability to advise and support councillors and managers on administrative and operational issues.
  • Experience of and ability to make decisions and use initiative when interacting with citizens, councillors, and senior colleagues with complex situations or behaviors.
  • Awareness of the sensitivities of working with Councillors and the ability to work with tact and diplomacy in a confidential and politically sensitive environment.
  • Good technical skills for the planned and efficient provision, installation, maintenance of all IT equipment, software, and services.
  • Well-developed team working skills demonstrating flexibility and creativity and able to support a team effectively within a highly-pressurized environment, where priorities and deadlines are subject to change.
  • Experience of presenting information in briefings and ability to communicate effectively in both formal and informal meetings.
