About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechatronics Engineer to join our team at Ocado Logistics. As an Electronics Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing electronic equipment and real-time software components of novel mechatronic devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design, specify, and/or fabricate electrical and electronic sub-systems, including PCBs, cabling, motor controllers, sensor acquisition systems, micro-controllers, and other related components.
  • System Architecture: Collaborate on system architecture design, including hardware and software components, to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Real-Time Software Development: Design and implement real-time and/or embedded software according to systems requirements, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Liaise with workshop technicians, manage 3rd party fabricators, and work collaboratively with other team members with expertise in other engineering disciplines.
  • Performance Evaluation: Evaluate the performance of prototype devices and provide feedback for improvement.
Requirements
  • Expertise: Expertise in PCB design, testing, and manufacturing techniques, as well as experience with real-time systems profiling and debugging.
  • Programming Skills: High proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C/C++.
  • Embedded Systems: Experience with embedded devices, writing device drivers, and understanding of real-time scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Electrical Components: Specification of electrical components to the appropriate standard for the intended application.
  • Sensor Technologies: Understanding of sensor technologies and transduction principles, including electronic design for sensor interfacing.
  • Communications Protocols: Knowledge of communications protocols, such as SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, UDP, Fieldbus, and serial.
  • Motion Control: Experience with choosing motors for motion control applications.
  • Power Electronics: Expertise in designing power electronics for electric motors (ac, dc, stepper).
  • FPGAs: Experience with FPGAs.
  • Robotics and Prosthetics: Previous experience with the low-level control of robotic or prosthetic devices.
  • ROS and CAD: Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) and CAD systems.
