Senior Property Solicitor

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Property Solicitor to join our team on an interim basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and representation in relation to commercial and residential property areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head of Legal and Commercial Services and Legal Services Team Manager on issues of corporate governance, including officer/member training, review of the constitution, and providing advice on compliance and corporate governance.
- Support the Head of Legal and Commercial Services to ensure legality in the Council's decision-making process and provide legal advice and support to the Council's committees, boards, groups, and working parties.
- Produce and review reports and agenda items, brief relevant officers on the legalities of such reports, and implement subsequent actions.
- Liaise with external solicitors, counsel, etc. who are acting on the Council's behalf in respect of legal issues, including drafting instructions.
- Carry out line management responsibilities in respect of the Property Legal Officer in accordance with instructions from the Legal Services Team Manager or Head of Legal and Commercial Services.
- Contribute to the development of the Legal Services Business Plan and the setting of income generation targets as a member of the Practice Management team.
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer – Solicitor, Barrister, FILEX, or equivalent demonstrable legal experience.
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context, and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Experience of advocacy and/or delivering training/presentations.
- Ideal experience in at least 3 of the following areas: Commercial Property Law, Residential Property Law, Compulsory Purchase Orders, Regeneration Projects, Local Government Law and Practice, Advising Committees.
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with others and work with a varying range of people at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with good networking, influencing, negotiation, and ambassadorial skills.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
