About the Role

The National Audit Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Lead to join our Communications Department. As a key member of our Design and Publishing team, you will play a critical role in evolving the design and creative production of all our externally and internally published outputs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Operational Excellence
  • Assign daily tasks to the Creative Artworkers & Typesetters, collaborating with the Publishing Lead to balance daily workload across the team.
  • Interpret client briefs to determine optimal design formats and approaches.
  • Create, enhance, and quality-assure a variety of digital- and print-based publications, diagrams, infographics, videos, animations, and social media assets.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring design solutions meet client objectives.
  • Support the continuous evolution of design outputs with a focus on user experience and brand consistency.
  • Provide creative direction and post-production support for videography and photography.
Team Management
  • Performance-coach and co-assignment manage the two Creative Artworkers & Typesetters.
  • Assist the Senior Design Manager in training the Design team on brand standards and operational best practices.
  • Deputise for the Senior Design Manager when necessary.
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive culture within the Design team.
Innovation and Improvement
  • Co-drive creative innovation within the design team, presenting ideas to the Senior Design Manager and Head of Design and Publishing.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices in design.
  • Contribute to improving our design services and client offerings.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in design, design for publishing, and creative production.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor small design teams.
  • Expertise in both digital and print design.
  • Experience of working with complex data.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office based software.
  • Digital publishing.
  • Self-service creative templating tools.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, CSS, Dreamweaver, xml/html.
