We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Leonardo UK Ltd, working on the design and development of next-generation IR Sensors for Space and Defence applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance of mechanical engineering solutions throughout the entire engineering lifecycle, considering product quality, safety, reliability, and other requirements.
  • Develop and implement innovative mechanical solutions and techniques to advance the next generation of IR Detectors.
  • Support the Programme Team in delivering product technical solutions for all aspects related to mechanical engineering.
  • Design and develop mechanical products and production tools/fixtures in accordance with business and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve desired quality, schedule, and cost targets.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of an upper second-class degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated engineering industry.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools, preferably PTC Creo.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a multi-discipline engineering team.
  • Knowledge of BS8888 drawing standards and GD&T.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/A).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • MEng in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience working in Defence, Space, or Medical sectors.
  • Knowledge of vacuum assemblies and optical assemblies.
  • Experience in designing electro-mechanical products and designing for harsh environments.
  • Appreciation of mechanical and thermal analysis.
  • Industrial experience in tools and fixtures design.

Working Arrangements:

This is a hybrid working role, with a mix of on-site and remote working.
