Position Overview
The Lead Ultrasound Specialist will oversee a dedicated team, ensuring the effective operation of the Ultrasound service within the Radiology department, adhering to established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
This role involves collaborating with radiologists, ultrasonographers, and nursing staff to provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing Ultrasound examinations.
Clinical support will be extended to patients and staff across various sites as necessary.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the Ultrasound team, ensuring compliance with departmental and organizational standards.
- Identify and address any operational issues within the Ultrasound service area.
- Facilitate the smooth execution of scheduled Ultrasound procedures.
- Assist in the development of staff rotas to ensure adequate coverage.
- Serve as the primary contact for inquiries related to the Ultrasound department, addressing them in accordance with organizational policies.

Job Responsibilities
- Verify patient identification and documentation in line with departmental protocols.
- Prepare patients for Ultrasound procedures, maintaining their privacy and dignity.
- Ensure patient confidentiality is upheld at all times.
- Utilize local IT systems for accurate and timely patient data management.
- Coordinate urgent in-patient scans as required.
- Understand and apply Radiation Safety principles as per national and local regulations.
- Facilitate communication between the department and all stakeholders, including patients and staff.
- Assist in training newly inducted staff members.
- Monitor stock levels and manage linen handling in accordance with infection control standards.
- Promote adherence to Health and Safety policies to protect staff and service users.
