BSL Teaching Assistant

**About the Role**

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with a BSL Level 1 qualification or above to join our dedicated team at a Primary School in Lewisham. As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will work under the guidance of the Teacher of the Deaf, utilising a Total Communication approach to ensure Deaf pupils can access learning both in their mainstream classroom and in our specialised Centre for the Deaf.

**Key Responsibilities**

* Support the learning and educational progress of pupils with hearing impairments through small group and one-to-one interventions.
* Collaborate with the Teacher of the Deaf and class teachers to promote inclusion and engagement in all learning experiences.
* Use BSL to facilitate communication and ensure Deaf pupils can participate fully in the curriculum.
* Foster independence in learning and encourage participation in various aspects of school life.

**What We're Looking For**

* BSL Level 1 qualification or above and experience of working within a primary school.
* The ability and willingness to understand the needs of students from different social backgrounds, sensory impairments and special educational needs.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, teachers and other support staff.
* A commitment to promoting inclusion and equality of opportunity for all students.
