We are seeking a dedicated and passionate BSL Teaching Assistant to join our team at a vibrant and friendly primary school in the London Borough of Sutton.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide support to students with hearing impairments, utilizing British Sign Language (BSL) where necessary. They will work closely with both students and teaching staff to facilitate effective communication and promote learning opportunities tailored to individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with hearing impairments, utilizing BSL where necessary.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt and differentiate learning materials to accommodate the needs of sight-impaired students.
  • Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies to promote student progress and development.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.
  • Liaise with external specialists and support services to ensure that students receive comprehensive and holistic support.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with sight-impaired individuals, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting student learning and development.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in BSL or special educational needs (SEN) would be advantageous.
