Position Overview:
This role is for a full-time Reading and Literacy Support Specialist focused on educational initiatives within correctional facilities.
As part of this position, you will collaborate with educational staff to assist learners with diverse needs, including those with disabilities.
- Conduct monthly initial and comprehensive screening activities as per the established schedule.
- Assess the unique educational requirements of individual inmates through the screening process.
- Utilize screening results to modify educational materials, ensuring they are tailored to meet the needs of neurodiverse learners during intervention and support sessions.
- Provide feedback and strategies to educational staff based on screening outcomes, using the summary documentation from the screening process.
- Develop Individual Learning Support Plans for learners.
- Organize, implement, and oversee the distribution of support services for those with a learning support plan.
Work Schedule: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Salary Range: Up to £28,000 annually
Annual Leave: 30 days per year
Candidate Requirements:
- Five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent), including English Language and Mathematics.
- Possession of or willingness to pursue a Level 3 qualification for Inclusion Support Coordinators within an agreed timeframe.
- Experience in an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with prison staff and students with limited educational backgrounds.
- Able to manage a caseload of learners with diverse educational needs, including disabilities.
- Familiarity with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and the SEND Code of Practice.

The selected candidate must obtain the necessary clearance to work within a correctional facility prior to commencing employment and maintain this clearance throughout their tenure.
