Role Overview:

The Engineering Delivery Manager will be based in Cheadle / Templecombe, UK, with a hybrid working model that combines office and remote work. Typically, three days a week will be spent on-site.

Travel requirements are minimal, with a maximum of 15% travel to Thales sites and occasional client meetings within the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

You will oversee a multidisciplinary team, including members from Hardware, Software, Systems, Safety, and Cyber Security, collaborating on the delivery of sonar equipment. This close-knit team is known for their dedication, supportiveness, and collaborative spirit.

Your Role:

As the Engineering Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for delivering on one of our sonar programmes, ensuring alignment with cost and schedule while meeting customer requirements.

Your duties will include providing principal engineering delivery leadership, direction, and decision-making authority to the programme or bid. You will also manage the Engineering team to achieve company objectives regarding programme timelines, financial performance, and quality standards.

It is essential to ensure that Engineering Processes are applied correctly and appropriately, adhering to company, legislative, regulatory, and international standards. Your role will encompass significant management responsibilities for engineering strategy and direction, with potential direct line management of project staff.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in systems engineering, preferably within the defence sector.
  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary team as a team lead or member.
  • Strong analytical skills that support logical, effective, and timely decision-making.
  • A solid understanding of Safety and Safety Assurance within the Engineering discipline.

While prior managerial experience in defence, particularly related to submarines or sonar equipment, is desirable, it is not mandatory. This role presents an excellent opportunity for you to develop this aspect of your career.
