About Harris Garrard Academy

Harris Garrard Academy is a leading educational institution that provides high-quality education to its students. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the attendance and punctuality of our students.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Attendance Officer in achieving attendance targets
  • Monitor and follow up on attendance and punctuality on a daily basis
  • Participate in late desk and follow-up detentions for students who are late to the academy
  • Contact parents/carers of absent students at agreed times and record reasons for absence
  • Monitor and make early calls on the attendance of children in care or students on the vulnerable list, reporting to the Academy Welfare Manager daily
  • Make home visits with the Academy Welfare Manager as required
  • Send letters to parents regarding attendance matters as requested by the Academy Welfare Manager
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the computerized registration system
  • Enter daily attendance information accurately onto the system
  • Establish the reason for absences through telephone calls, letters, and home visits, in liaison with tutors and other staff
  • Prepare and distribute attendance and punctuality certificates as part of the academy's reward policy
  • Follow up on poor attendance or punctuality
  • Sign students in and out of the academy outside normal start and finish times, ensuring communication with home where required
  • Liaise with the Educational Welfare Officer to ensure prompt, consistent, and rigorous intervention on poor attendance
  • Monitor student attendance together with students' progress and performance in relation to targets set
  • Deal with referrals on attendance concerns from faculties
  • Alert appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and make recommendations for resolution
  • Communicate with parents and with persons or bodies outside the academy concerned with the welfare of individual students
