About the Role

Global Fishing Watch is seeking a highly skilled consultant to support its strategy and position development on the role of technology and transparency in the BBNJ Agreement. The ideal candidate will have expertise in marine governance, sustainability, and policy analysis, with a strong understanding of the BBNJ Agreement and its implications for ocean conservation.

The consultant will be responsible for identifying key gaps in the implementation of the Agreement and developing strategies to leverage technology and transparency to support its goals. This will involve analyzing existing data and tools, identifying opportunities for collaboration and engagement, and developing recommendations for GFW's position on the BBNJ Agreement.

The consultant will also provide support for fundraising and proposal writing, including mapping potential opportunities with funders and developing training materials for GFW staff. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the BBNJ Agreement and its implications for ocean conservation
  • Identify key gaps in the implementation of the Agreement and develop strategies to leverage technology and transparency to support its goals
  • Develop recommendations for GFW's position on the BBNJ Agreement
  • Provide support for fundraising and proposal writing, including mapping potential opportunities with funders
  • Develop training materials for GFW staff on BBNJ issues and the BBNJ Agreement

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as marine governance, sustainability, or policy analysis
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field, with a strong understanding of the BBNJ Agreement and its implications for ocean conservation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective strategies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
