Waste Management Operative

About the RoleThis permanent, full-time position involves undertaking various duties associated with refuse, recycling, and street cleansing functions of the Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient collection and disposal of waste, promoting recycling, and maintaining public spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Collect and dispose of domestic and commercial waste from properties throughout the borough.
- Load and unload refuse containers and sacks onto collection vehicles.
- Collect and empty refuse containers for households qualifying for the Council's assisted lift service.
- Inspect containers for contamination and report to the driver/team leader.
- Record and report any damage to refuse containers or public property.
- Assist the driver in safe maneuvering of the vehicle.
- Collect large items from individual households as part of the Council's bulky collection service.
- Sweep and collect litter, dirt, leaves, and dog fouling from Council land and public spaces.
- Empty litter bins and clean them as necessary.
- Remove fly tipping, illegal dumping, and dead animals from roads and public spaces.
- Report any damage to litter bins, signs, or other Council property.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- At least two years' experience in paid employment of outdoor manual work and heavy lifting items over 16kg for more than 50% of a working day, in all weather conditions.
- At least two years' experience in paid employment of dealing with the public on a face-to-face basis.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding and appreciation of the needs of the public.
- Able to work outside normal working hours as and when required.
