About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Control Officer/Surveyor to join our team at Michael Page (UK). As a key member of our Building Control function, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of buildings within our district.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the day-to-day control of building work, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and ancillary legislation.
  2. Lead contact for major/complex projects, overseeing plans examination, site inspections, and enforcement.
  3. Check plans and notices for compliance, prepare amendment schedules, and correspond with relevant parties.
  4. Inspect work on site, ensuring adherence to Building Regulations and related legislation.
  5. Recover fees and charges in accordance with the scheme of charges and controlling legislation.
  6. Investigate alleged breaches of Building Regulations, gathering evidence and attending court hearings.
  7. Maintain accurate records of site inspections, telephone conversations, meetings, and emails.
  8. Liaise with clients, architects, surveyors, engineers, agents, contractors, and other industry professionals.
  9. Undertake routine written work, correspondence, and administrative duties within corporate and statutory timescales.
  10. Contribute to the effective marketing of Local Authority Building Control, promoting awareness of its competitive nature and threat from other providers.
  11. Assist the Building Control Manager in commercial development, recognizing and capitalizing on additional revenue streams.
  12. Participate in cross-boundary and partnership working with other local authorities as required.
  13. Assist in business-based management to ensure statutory 'Building Control Trading Account' requirements are met.
  14. Provide advice to the public and other ENC Departments/Groups on Building Regulation and construction matters.
  15. Advise applicants and consider applications for dispensation of Building Regulation requirements.
  16. Organize testing of controlled services and materials when necessary.
  17. Carry out prompt investigations and inspections of dangerous structures, including emergency remedial work and liaison with emergency services.
  18. Serve as an asset of the Council's Emergency Plan.
  19. Investigate, inspect, and take related actions in respect of demolition control, including statutory notice service.
  20. Administer Initial Notices, Plans Certificates, and Final Certificates relating to The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.)
  21. Investigate building failures, preparing reports and evidence for insurance purposes.
  22. Provide information on construction work progress for statistical returns.
  23. Prepare information required for Land charges Searches relating to Building Regulations.
  24. Assist in promoting the group and disseminating changing regulatory requirements by developing and updating information leaflets, guidance documents, and the group's website.
Requirements

Competent and experienced within Building Control functions, registered to minimum Class 2.
