About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer to join our team at Colas Rail UK. As a key member of our Programme Delivery and Production Manager's teams, you will play a crucial role in the management of 'Track' discipline specific areas of assigned works within the programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Programme Delivery and Production Manager's teams in managing the delivery teams to plan works to meet or improve upon agreed target costs.
  • Ensure changes to scope and specification are managed and that Risk/Change Registers are robustly maintained.
  • Participate and contribute to the development of works in line with GRIP4Track process and the engineering management plan.
  • Prepare methodologies, resource requirements, estimates and plans to ensure safe and cost effective delivery of the works.
  • Lead the technical team in the successful delivery of works in line with specification, programme requirements, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure agreed performance and other KPI's are met.
  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in accordance with conditions of contract, health and safety legislation and alliance procedures.
  • Manage the preparation of all Work Package Plans, Task Briefs and other required documentation to the required standard and timescale.
  • Manage the welfare of assigned staff and participate with human resources as required.
  • Monitor the progress, assurance, compliance and costs of the works, preparing and contributing to reports as required.
  • Direct and monitor the performance and competency of all staff under your control.
  • Promote and ensure safe working practices in accordance with the appropriate safety legislation and alliance/business requirements.
  • Undertake investigation of accidents, incidents and other non-conformances, preparing reports and making recommendations where directed.
  • Review completed works to ensure 'Best Practice' and 'Lessons Learnt' activities are captured, recorded and utilised in future work planning and execution.
  • Act as and undertake the duties Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) for the Construction.
  • Ensure compliance with Alliance health and safety, quality and environment processes for the programme and drive safety initiatives and an embedded safety culture through everything we do.
Requirements

The job holder will have:

  • H.N.C. in an engineering discipline with 5 years experience.
  • Experience in a management post.
  • Knowledge of Track Renewal and enhancement processes, operational railway and associated safety matters.
  • An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work.
  • CDM, risk assessment, auditing internal and external competency.
