Position Overview
Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist in Uro-Gynaecology
A part-time opportunity is available within the Uro-Gynaecology Team. The successful candidate will lead nurse-led clinics, providing care for patients undergoing various uro-gynaecological assessments and interventions.
The role involves delivering a high-quality nursing service in Uro-Gynaecology, which includes conducting specialized clinics such as Peripheral Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS), fitting vaginal pessaries for both new and returning patients, managing complex TWOC, bladder installations, medication evaluations, patient education, catheter management, and urodynamic diagnostic assessments. The service caters to referrals from diverse settings, many involving complex cases.
This position requires a commitment of 30 hours per week, with shifts scheduled between Monday and Friday from 07:30 to 18:00, based on service requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as a clinical nurse specialist to effectively provide expert nursing services within Uro-Gynaecology.
- Conduct specialized nursing assessments, examinations, and manage treatment plans for women attending the department.
- Offer specialized nurse-led clinics to address all referrals, including complex Uro-Gynaecology cases.
- Support necessary changes to enhance and develop Uro-Gynaecology services.
- Participate in the recruitment and ongoing development of staff, ensuring adherence to national, local, and Trust protocols and guidelines.
- Engage in research and audit activities.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of Uro-Gynaecology.
- Assist senior management in developing innovative strategies to manage the increasing caseload in Uro-Gynaecology.
- Provide a range of Uro-Gynaecology nurse-led clinics, including PTNS, vaginal pessary fittings, complex TWOC, bladder installations, medication reviews, patient education, catheter care, and urodynamic diagnostic clinics.
- Deliver specialist advice and support the training of new and junior nursing and medical staff in all aspects of Uro-Gynaecology procedures and clinics.
- Contribute to the department's compliance with the British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) accreditation criteria.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Current NMC registration.
- BSc (Hons) in Nursing or Health Studies.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Recognized qualification in urology/continence or willingness to pursue.
Desirable
- NMP qualification.
- Leadership qualification.
- Mentorship/Teaching qualification.
- Postgraduate qualification in Uro-Gynaecology.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Capability to analyze and communicate data in written reports.
Desirable
- Evidence of service development and ability to implement change.
- Advanced physical assessment course in pessary fitting.
Experience

- Extensive experience in Uro-Gynaecology, Gynaecology, Urology, or Continence nursing.
- Experience working with PGDs.
- Evidence of teaching experience and delivering presentations.

- Experience in clinical governance and risk management.
