Job Title: Academic Training Programme Director

The Academic Training Programme Director plays a crucial role in supporting the Postgraduate Dean in leading the delivery of various functions within their specialty, aligned with the NHS England mandate.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Quality Learning Environment: Emphasize the importance of a quality learning environment for all learners and promote its development.
  2. Statutory Requirements: Support Postgraduate Deans in meeting all NHSE statutory requirements.
  3. Quality Processes: Assist in the development of quality processes that are complementary across the healthcare workforce.
  4. Clinical Skills Training: Support the use of clinical skills training and simulation, stressing the importance of teamwork and human factors.
  5. Regional Training Programme: Oversee the Specialty's Regional Training Programme and advise Postgraduate Deans and Heads of School on specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
  6. Recruitment and Management: Recruit to training posts and programmes, and manage postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support, and remediation.
  7. Reporting and Advice: Provide reports to the Specialty Training Committee and School Board, and advise and support the Postgraduate Dean in educational and workforce development elements.
  8. Compliance and Learning Needs: Support compliance with requirements, particularly with regard to the supervision and support for trainees and learners, and identify learning needs and support provision of educational appraisal, educator development, and resource for faculty, trainees, and learners.
  9. Shared Learning Opportunities: Create and promote shared learning opportunities to increase effective inter-professional working across the School.
  10. Local Intelligence and Workforce Planning: Ensure local intelligence processes inform quality management processes, and contribute to workforce planning, ensuring clinical engagement with local and national workforce planning processes.
  11. Commissioning and Decommissioning: Advise the Postgraduate Dean on commissioning and decommissioning activities, and engage with financial business planning processes and associated School budgets as needed.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
