Safety Compliance Specialist

An exceptional opportunity exists for a Safety Compliance Specialist to become a vital member of our team. The ideal candidate will possess a background in Civil Engineering or Construction. This role entails the oversight and execution of the Company's Health, Safety, and Environmental Management systems across various project sites.

The Safety Compliance Specialist will be instrumental in developing and monitoring strategies that enhance the safety management framework. We seek a collaborative team player who excels in problem-solving and will engage proactively with project delivery teams. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role involves daily interactions with Client Health & Safety teams, management, and our workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the Project Delivery team to ensure projects are executed without accidents or incidents.
  • Provide guidance to contract and site personnel regarding risk assessments, method statements, task-specific briefings, and overall safety matters.
  • Lead monthly HSEQ Forward Planning meetings, conduct regular HSEQ audits and inspections, and ensure that non-conformances are addressed promptly.
  • Represent the Company in safety meetings with Clients and Sub-Contractors, and attend project initiation meetings.
  • Conduct accident investigations and compile reports, collaborating with the Project Delivery Team to identify and implement improvement actions.
  • Disseminate safety initiatives, notices, and alerts to all staff and workforce members.
  • Collaborate with the HSQE Director or Head of Health and Safety to produce monthly project summaries and assist in reviewing Group procedures.
  • Support the development and delivery of in-house safety training programs and presentations.
  • Communicate updates regarding changes in technology, work methods, or statutory requirements through safety bulletins and internal procedures.
  • Stay informed about client Health & Safety standards and ensure their implementation at the project level.
  • Devise strategies to achieve targets and promote best practices while ensuring compliance with HSE legislation.
  • Perform additional duties as required in line with the responsibilities of this position.
  • Adhere to Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in Civil Engineering or construction projects, including areas such as drainage, groundworks, structures, temporary works, reinforced concrete, earthworks, and lifting operations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statutory Health & Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • Understanding of Client Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
  • Familiarity with CDM 2015, including roles and responsibilities.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in IT applications.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to enhance safety awareness and culture.
  • Proactive leadership in managing HSE policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Capability to train and develop staff, enhancing their understanding and skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, contractors, and site personnel to improve performance and minimize non-conformances.

Essential Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Qualification (general & construction) or equivalent.
  • Membership with IOSH.
