About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at The University of Manchester. As a Research Scientist in Nuclear Fusion Spectroscopy, you will play a key role in advancing our research in novel instrumentation and analytical science related to nuclear fusion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement new spectroscopic methods for the detection of Li-6 using laser ablation laser absorption spectroscopy
  • Collaborate with project partners to develop an on-line tool for application in a new separation technique for Li-6
  • Design and configure instrumentation for characterisation systems and their integration with deployment platforms
  • Work effectively alongside project partners to achieve project goals
  • Contribute to the development of process scale-up, online monitoring, lifecycle analysis and lifecycle costings, regulation, and product form and purity
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent in physics, chemistry, chemical or electrical engineering or related discipline
  • Expertise in the application and development of optical instrumentation
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Experience in using analysis and data processing
  • Familiarity with the configuration of instrumentation and the requirements of setting up characterisation systems
