We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Research Officer to join our Finance Team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing financial support to the R&D Department and wider trust finance department.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day financial operations support to the R&D Department, including issuing invoices, calculating income allocations, and answering queries.
- Develop and maintain financial systems and processes to ensure accurate and comprehensive financial data.
- Support and advise managers, budget holders, and other staff on financial issues, communicating information in lay terms and escalating when necessary.
- Manage research accounts, ensuring they are created in a timely manner and finances are attributed correctly.
- Perform month-end and quarterly activities, ensuring accuracy of financial position and maintaining monthly working papers, accruals, and processing journals.
- Use initiative to investigate ad hoc queries and respond or escalate as necessary.
- Train clinical trial staff on correct invoicing processes to ensure all income is raised in a timely manner and adheres to sponsor requirements.
- Handle queries from internal staff and external sponsors relating to financial management, invoices, purchase orders, and costings.
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff, including the New and Aspiring Leaders programme and the Foundation Quality Improvement Programme. We also offer further in-house courses and leadership apprenticeships at level 3, 5, and 7.
Requirements- Working knowledge of IT systems, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Understanding of NHS research finance principles and processes.
- NVQ Level 2 working towards NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
- Minimum Level 2 (AAT) qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience of working in finance, including experience of working with internal and external departments.
