Student Support Specialist
The organization
The alternative education provider is seeking to recruit a student support specialist to offer additional assistance on both an individual and small group basis. The ideal candidate will work closely with students to help manage their behavior by providing coping strategies and engaging activities that foster a calm and respectful atmosphere, allowing them to feel secure and nurtured during their time at school. All students in this setting have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan or Individual Education Plan (IEP) to address their Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, which must be adhered to in order to meet their unique requirements throughout the school day.
- Alternative education provider
- No specific educational qualifications necessary.
- Qualifications in psychology, counseling, or related fields are preferred but not mandatory.
- Compensation - £85-£100 per day
The position
As a student support specialist, you may need to maintain close communication with students' families and various external agencies to create a comprehensive support network for the students. It is essential to tailor your planning, teaching, and activities to accommodate the diverse needs of each student you are assisting, as they will have different requirements and coping mechanisms. This role may extend beyond supporting students within the school environment; you might also be expected to offer guidance to family members, equipping them with strategies that can be implemented outside of school to ensure consistency in routines and approaches. Your role is to serve as a reliable and positive influence for your students, ensuring they feel comfortable, secure, and respected in your presence. Many students may lack a stable support system outside of school, making it crucial to provide that consistent support while they are under your care, which is vital for their growth and development.
