The Manufacturing Engineer at Gordon Murray Group plays a crucial role in the meticulous planning, development, and coordination of production processes that facilitate the creation of high-quality vehicles across various models. Collaborating closely with team members, the engineer aims to enhance manufacturing processes to meet established Quality, Cost, and Delivery objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Detailed Planning: Oversee the planning and coordination of production processes to ensure targets for Quality, Cost, and Delivery are met.
- Build Sequencing: Take ownership of vehicle build sequencing throughout the virtual, prototype, and production phases.
- Facility Management: Manage facility layout and equipment specifications.
- Engineering Analysis: Conduct engineering analyses to minimize downtime, address quality concerns, and resolve process cycle time issues.
- Root Cause Analysis: Perform root cause analysis and implement effective resolutions.
- FMEA Activities: Engage in PFMEA and DFMEA activities to enhance process reliability.
- Process Development: Design and implement manufacturing processes and quality control measures, including process operating instructions and equipment specifications.
- Tooling Collaboration: Work alongside tooling and fixtures design engineers to create necessary jigs and fixtures for production.
- Production Support: Provide engineering support for production and maintenance to ensure targets are consistently achieved.
- Engineering Approvals: Review and approve engineering releases and changes.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate current production practices and recommend enhancements.
- Cost Management: Implement initiatives aimed at cost reduction while upholding high-quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to meet business objectives.
- Safety Procedures: Identify unsafe practices and establish compliant safety procedures.
- Team Development: Provide training and guidance to team members to achieve production goals.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay updated with product specifications, engineering advancements, and production methodologies.
- Best Practices: Develop and promote best practices to enhance production capacity, quality, and reliability.
- Communication: Maintain clear communication regarding daily activities with the team and ensure alignment with the Principal Manufacturing Engineer on priorities and work plans.
- Preferred qualifications include a relevant manufacturing or engineering degree, A Levels, ONC, City & Guilds level 3, BTec National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma, or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.
- Demonstrated automotive experience within a consultancy or OEM environment.
- Familiarity with full product life-cycle activities and the ability to meet production targets.
- Experience with FMEA, Kaizen/A3 methodologies, and Poka Yoke techniques.
- Capability to create manufacturing process development plans and manage activities effectively.
- Experience in supplier management.
- Proficiency in various IT applications (e.g., Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Smartsheets, PowerBI) at an advanced level.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attributes such as organization, persuasiveness, resourcefulness, flexibility, ambition, and a passion for achieving objectives are essential.
