Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, United Kingdom Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The role of a classroom educator encompasses two distinct salary classifications, each with unique responsibilities and expectations. The primary objective of the classroom educator is to design, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving specific learning outcomes for students. Engaging in reflective practices and inquiry is essential for enhancing personal knowledge and skills, thereby effectively engaging students and fostering their academic growth.

As educators gain experience, their contributions to the school community extend beyond the classroom. All educators may be assigned additional responsibilities that align with their salary classification, qualifications, training, and experience.

Classroom Educator - Range 2
Educators at this level play a pivotal role in driving improvements in student performance and educational outcomes, as outlined in the school's strategic plan and state-wide objectives. They contribute significantly to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.

A key aspect of this role involves enhancing the knowledge base of fellow staff members regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices, assisting the school in defining exemplary teaching methodologies.

Range 2 educators are expected to:

  • Possess the necessary content knowledge and pedagogical skills to cater to the diverse needs of all students.
  • Exemplify outstanding classroom practices and mentor colleagues in critical reflection of their teaching methodologies.
  • Provide expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that will shape both individual and school-wide professional development.
  • Supervise and mentor student teachers.
  • Assist colleagues in utilizing student data to inform instructional strategies that meet established learning targets.

Classroom Educator - Range 1
The primary focus for educators at this level is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective practitioners, supported by structured guidance from more experienced colleagues. They are responsible for teaching various student groups and ensuring the effective delivery of their educational programs.

Range 1 educators operate under general supervision, adhering to established guidelines and documented priorities, and may oversee the training of student teachers.

At this level, educators are involved in the development of school policies and programs, contributing to the implementation of institutional priorities. Their focus includes classroom management, subject matter expertise, and teaching methodologies. New educators receive structured support and mentoring during their initial years in the profession.

Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups across one or more subjects, participating in induction programs and professional development activities designed to integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy across the school.

Range 1 educators are accountable for their own classes and may also engage in policy development, project teams, and the organization of extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a classroom educator may include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction of student groups and individual learners.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum areas or other educational programs within the institution.
  • Performing additional teaching-related and organizational duties as directed by the School Principal.
  • Participating in activities such as parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, camps, and excursions.
  • Engaging in non-teaching supervisory responsibilities.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be currently registered or eligible for registration with the relevant teaching authority and possess qualifications or demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum areas.

Commitment to EEO and OHS

Individuals seeking part-time positions are encouraged to apply for any teaching service role and may request a reduced time fraction upon successful appointment, subject to operational requirements.

The educational department is dedicated to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. We value diversity in all forms, including gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTIQ+, disability, and neurodiversity.
