Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, United Kingdom Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The role of a classroom educator encompasses two distinct salary classifications, each with specific responsibilities and expectations. The primary objective of the classroom educator is to design, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student learning outcomes. This role requires ongoing self-assessment and inquiry to enhance teaching effectiveness and foster student engagement.

As educators progress in their careers, their involvement in school initiatives outside the classroom expands. All educators may be tasked with additional responsibilities beyond their scheduled teaching duties, provided these align with their qualifications, training, and experience.

Classroom Educator - Level 2
Level 2 educators play a crucial role in advancing student achievement and educational outcomes as outlined in the school's strategic objectives. They contribute significantly to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.

A vital aspect of this position involves enhancing the knowledge of fellow staff members regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices, thereby helping the school define exemplary teaching standards.

Level 2 educators are expected to:

  • Possess comprehensive content knowledge and pedagogical skills to cater to the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Exemplify outstanding classroom practices and mentor colleagues in reflective teaching practices to enhance their professional growth.
  • Provide specialized guidance on content, methodologies, and strategies that will influence both individual and collective professional development.
  • Oversee and mentor student teachers.
  • Assist colleagues in utilizing student performance data to inform instructional strategies aimed at improving learning outcomes.

Classroom Educator - Level 1
The primary focus for Level 1 educators is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective teaching professionals, supported by structured guidance from more experienced educators. They are responsible for teaching various student groups and ensuring the effective delivery of their educational programs.

Level 1 educators are skilled practitioners who operate under general supervision, adhering to established guidelines and priorities. They may also supervise and mentor student teachers.

At this level, educators participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in implementing school priorities. Their focus is on classroom management, subject matter expertise, and teaching methodologies. New educators receive structured support and mentoring during their initial years in the profession.

Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to engage in induction programs and professional development activities designed to integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy throughout the school.

Level 1 educators are accountable for their own classes and may also contribute to policy development, project teams, and the organization of extracurricular activities.
