Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Space Optics

Our client, a world leader in the scientific and satellite/space industries, is seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Chelmsford.

This exciting opportunity involves leading the design of mounting arrangements for optics, reviewing designs from sub-contractors, and conducting opto-mechanical analysis. The ideal candidate will have experience in precision mechanical mounting of optics for structural, dynamic, and thermal environments, as well as knowledge of requirements management and CAD packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop mechanical components and opto-mechanical systems
  2. Lead the design of mounting arrangements for optics and review designs from sub-contractors
  3. Conduct opto-mechanical analysis, including tolerance, thermal, static, and dynamic analysis
  4. Assist with requirements management and derivation of opto-mechanical technologies
  5. Liaise with stakeholders to ensure high quality standards are met across the development lifecycle

Requirements:

  1. Proven experience in precision mechanical mounting of optics for structural, dynamic, and thermal environments
  2. Knowledge of requirements management and CAD packages
  3. Competent with opto-mechanical design and analysis
  4. Ability to review and lead opto-mechanical designs
