Welfare and Protection Coordinator
Full time (37hrs per week, 37 weeks per year)

£24,249 per annum (pro rata £17,254) + benefits

About the Role
In this fulfilling position, as a Welfare and Protection Coordinator, you will deliver a high-quality, responsive service to students encountering welfare and safeguarding challenges, adhering to statutory obligations.

You will collaborate closely with the College Welfare Leads when making referrals to suitable agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
As a primary point of contact, you will provide advisory support for staff addressing student welfare and safeguarding matters, while also offering confidential information and guidance to all students regarding safeguarding-related issues, including child protection disclosures.

An essential aspect of the Welfare and Protection Coordinator role is to oversee and manage safeguarding referrals through internal information systems, ensuring interventions are timely and compliant with child protection legislation and statutory guidance.

You will ensure that child protection records related to student safeguarding information are accurately documented and securely stored in accordance with statutory guidance.

Moreover, you will establish, maintain, and cultivate effective relationships that engage students, particularly those identified as at risk of disengagement or underachievement, to eliminate potential barriers, thereby facilitating ongoing assistance and support within a professional framework.

Qualifications and Experience:
You should possess recent experience in safeguarding within an educational or community context. Experience in youth engagement, advice, and guidance or education with young individuals is preferred. Ideally, your background will include post-16 education (FE) and managing a variety of safeguarding cases. A solid understanding of confidentiality, child protection, data protection/consent, and anti-discriminatory and trauma-informed practices is essential.

You will hold Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalent), a Level 3 Safeguarding qualification, and ideally a further Level 3 qualification in a general vocation (though this is not mandatory).

Department Information:
You will work in close collaboration with Student Support colleagues, including Campus Welfare Leads, Attendance and Pastoral Officers, Mentors, Personal Development Coordinators, and Curriculum staff, alongside broader college teams.

You will be managed by the Group Welfare Lead, who will provide operational direction.

Our Excellent Benefits and Rewards Package:
- Access to local government pension scheme
- Up to 41 days annual leave per year, including closure during the Christmas period
- Access to gyms, restaurants, and salons
- Staff health & wellbeing and benefits schemes, including in-house Occupational Health services
- Flexible working hours available in many roles
- Parking available at all sites
- Exceptional career development opportunities, including funding for teacher training, apprenticeships, and various other industry-recognized qualifications
- Recruitment Referral Scheme for all employees, worth up to £200 per referral made.
