Job Title: Apprentice Control and Electrical Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Apprentice Control and Electrical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for managing the maintenance and switching of high voltage equipment, producing HV/LV switching plans, and ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the maintenance and switching of high voltage equipment, including producing HV/LV switching plans to minimize downtime.
  • Oversee the management of CHP maintenance and uptime, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Own, operate, and maintain HV and LV main distribution systems, including protection, PFC, and SPDs.
  • Operate and commission site BMS/SCADA systems, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
  • Train and educate shift personnel and other engineers on site, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Produce weekly energy reports and analysis, highlighting areas for improvement and energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Design and commission control panels and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Specify maintenance requirements for equipment under ownership, ensuring timely and effective maintenance.
  • Develop operational and performance specifications for electrical and control systems, including commissioning plans.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings and boards, providing expert advice and guidance on electrical and control systems.
  • Assist in problem-solving and troubleshooting, working closely with colleagues to resolve issues.
  • Administer and update the CMMS system, scheduling and recording maintenance activities.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of plant operation, including VFDs, motors, boilers, chillers, HVAC, pumps, and vacuum systems.
  • Ability to read, produce, and understand electrical and mechanical drawings, including P&IDs and flow diagrams.
  • Experience working with pneumatic systems, including fault-finding and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of electrical and control/instrumentation systems, including design and commissioning.
  • Ability to interact at all levels, including presentations to senior management.
  • Familiarity with air conditioning systems, including humidity and room pressure controls.
  • Experience in facilities management or building services, with knowledge of current electrical regulations.
  • Proficiency in common software packages, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Apprentice-trained or equivalent experience, with a degree in an electrical and/or controls discipline.
  • Basic understanding of air conditioning and humidification control systems, DI water, and pH correction systems.
  • Appreciation of energy management and a willingness to improve energy and environmental performance.
  • Basic understanding of SPC and problem investigation techniques, including 8D and FMEA.
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques, including VA and thermal imaging.
