Position Overview

As a Lead Legal Consultant, the successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of inquests and personal injury cases, including clinical negligence and liability claims. The complexity and volume of cases will reflect the seniority of the role.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Legal Consultant will collaborate closely with the Director of Legal Services and the Deputy Head of Legal Services to ensure the effective delivery of the comprehensive legal services offered by the department. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with internal and external legal standards.
  • Assisting team members in drafting legal documents and statements as necessary.
  • Representing the organization at Inquests and Court Hearings, providing support to witnesses.
  • Conducting advocacy in legal proceedings.
  • Facilitating training sessions for staff and participating in relevant committees and groups.
  • Offering extensive advice on medico-legal matters, including urgent situations.
  • Identifying and revising Trust policies as needed.
  • Addressing Regulation 28 Prevention of Future Deaths concerns appropriately.
  • Collaborating effectively with various Trust contacts.
  • Engaging in governance activities.
  • Assisting in the daily management and investigation of legal claims and inquests.
  • Providing supervision to junior case managers within the team.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Degree-level education with a Legal Practice Course (LPC).
  • Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or Trainee Solicitor willing to transfer training.
  • Extensive experience in claims and inquest management within an NHS Trust or similar setting.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in health and social care law.
