Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity exists to become a part of the Ophthalmology outpatient service at King's College Hospital. We seek a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses a keen interest in eye care.

This position demands outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, along with meticulous attention to detail to ensure the delivery of high-quality imaging services. This fulfilling role will evolve alongside our team-oriented approach, enabling us to meet the growing needs of patients with ocular conditions.

Comprehensive training will be provided; however, prior experience in a patient-facing role within an eye care environment is advantageous.

Work Schedule

Shift pattern (non-negotiable due to service requirements): 8am - 6pm, including weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Exhibit compassionate, professional behavior that fosters trust and confidence among patients.

Maintain effective communication with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary team regarding all aspects of care, demonstrating a variety of appropriate communication techniques.

Perform ophthalmic technician responsibilities, including (but not limited to):

  • Assessment of visual acuity
  • Conducting visual field tests
  • Retinal imaging utilizing various devices such as OPTOS, OCT imaging, CASIA, etc.
  • Measuring spectacles with an automated focimeter
  • Assessing intraocular pressure using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser and iCARE
  • Participating in virtual technician-led clinics
  • Utilizing electronic patient record management systems
  • Assisting with intravitreal injections and cross-linking services
  • Carrying out administrative tasks in accordance with departmental guidelines
  • Contributing to the smooth operation of all clinics, including opening and closing procedures
  • Completing the care certificate within three months of starting
  • Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of all equipment
  • Committing to ongoing training as required
  • Demonstrating ophthalmic technician duties to others and assisting in the training of new staff as necessary
  • Ensuring compliance with the Trust's policies and procedures
