Job Overview

The Radiology Department at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Clinical Support Workers.

This role is predominantly clinical with some administrative duties and involves working within a multi-disciplinary team on a 7-day rota.

As a Clinical Support Worker, you will be responsible for communicating with radiographers, radiologists, and other members of the multi-professional team regarding changes in patient condition or any other useful information.

Effective communication with patients, carers, and family is essential, and the ability to seek support from the radiographer/radiologist when required.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Assisting Radiologist/Radiographer with a range of procedures including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Fluoroscopy
  • Familiarity with the principles of radiographic technique
  • Ensuring the working area is clean and tidy
  • Preparing the examination room for complex techniques, including practicing aseptic techniques and sterile trolley preparations
  • Preparing contrast media and IV preparations
  • Assisting the radiologist with interventional and minor surgical techniques
  • Welcoming patients, instructing them in the preparation and nature of their examination, responding to their personal needs
  • Reassuring anxious and distressed patients and those with physical or mental impairments
  • Maintaining basic nursing care of patients
  • Assisting patients requiring more than one member of staff for transfers, including the use of hoists and other patient handling equipment

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training and Professional Development

  • Good standard of General Secondary Education
  • Care Certificate or willingness to undertake and complete within 13/52 of appointment
  • Hold or be willing to study for appropriate Level 3 qualification
  • Knowledge of Radiology clinical procedures

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of Radiology Information System (RIS)
  • GCSE or equivalent Science or healthcare qualification

Experience

  • A general knowledge of the NHS
  • A broad understanding of the radiology department and procedures undertaken

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Good literacy/numeracy skills and ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to use initiative and work within a team environment
  • Willingness to continue to learn and develop relevant knowledge and skills
  • Understanding of the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Flexible in ability to work evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills
