Job Title: Lead Engineer – Mass Properties Analysis

Salary: Competitive Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the strategy for gathering mass properties data to ensure weight and centroid management on high-value submarine projects.
- Accountable for compiling weight and centroid reports, presenting findings to the Chief Naval Architect, and developing mitigation strategies.
- Establish and oversee mass budgets for submarine projects, breaking them down to system levels.
- Assist Naval Architects and Ships Staff during submarine sea trials.
- Create and maintain a detailed database of mass properties for various components.
- Encourage a culture of weight management and collaborate with system engineering to incorporate weight as a fundamental design constraint.
- Conduct Research and Development initiatives, representing BAE Systems at both UK and international conferences.
- Perform conceptual parametric estimations for mass distributions and moments of inertia while advancing methods and tools for mass properties estimation.
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) evaluations of weight control methodologies for non-submarine projects within the BAE Systems group.
Required Skills and Experience:
Essential:- Degree in Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent experience.
- Chartered Engineer status or the ability to achieve it within a year.
- Proven ability to work independently and provide technical leadership within a team.
- Experience in weight management and control on large-scale projects.
- Experience with large, intricate Electrical or Mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in using VBA or Python for data manipulation automation.
- Familiarity with CAD software and programs.

The Weight Engineering Team consists of a diverse group of Engineers and Data Scientists who estimate, gather, and present mass properties data for various high-value submarine projects. This specialized team plays a crucial role in the overall design and safety assurance of the submarines.
