Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Intelligence Specialist to join our team at West Midlands Police. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in supporting our mission to reduce firearms criminality and provide a national centre of excellence for forensic science, intelligence, and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Analysis
  • Conduct in-depth analysis at a strategic, tactical, and operational level to identify gaps, patterns, and trends, assess threat, risk, and harm, and make recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of current intelligence, crime trends, and patterns nationally.
  • Utilize subject matter expertise to advise on and recommend pathways of resolution from analysis to senior officers.
Intelligence Collection and Planning
  • Assist in the development of intelligence collection plans to ensure effective communication to operational officers, senior leaders, police forces, and external partners.
Compliance and Integrity
  • Undertake all analytical functions in preparation of National Intelligence Model products, in accordance with the Analysis Authorized Professional Practice guidance set by the College of Policing.
  • Work to a high level of integrity, handling official information, and follow GPMS and other guidance regarding handling and storing this data.
Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Provide effective horizon and environmental scanning products through proactive scanning research and subsequent analysis of research.
General Responsibilities
  • Enroll in the College of Policing Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Qualification and continued IPP compliance.
  • Undertake training as and when required.
  • Experience of collating, evaluating, structuring, and processing data to identify patterns, series, similarities, and discrepancies within a variety of information types.
  • Evidence of working with, interpreting, and simplifying complex data sets.
  • Highly competent in the use of Microsoft packages, advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision and use own initiative.

Requirements

  • Evidence of a good understanding of the requirements of the National Intelligence Model (NIM).
  • Knowledge of current threat trends and organizational, policy issues relevant to the criminal use of firearms.
  • Experience of using databases to both input and extract data.
  • Experience of the use of statistical and risk models.
  • Experience of relevant analytical tools, such as iBASE, i2 analyst notebook, GIS applications, and other customized databases.
  • Ability to recognize conscious/unconscious biases associated with intelligence analysis.
  • Experience as an Intelligence Analyst within a law enforcement agency (LEA).

Security Clearance

  • Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, including a full background and financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical Requirements

  • Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully passing medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.

Working Hours and Location

  • Full-Time (36.5 hours) 08:00- 16:00 Monday - Friday
  • Central Birmingham Based Office
