Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing emergency repairs and routine maintenance of emergency and non-emergency vehicles. This includes servicing, repairing, and maintaining a range of vehicles from ambulance and non-ambulance service vehicles to light commercial and Heavy Goods vehicles and cars from various manufacturers.

Main Duties
  • Carry out repair and maintenance work on a range of items of Trust equipment, requiring specialized training/accreditation such as all stretcher equipment (mechanical/hydraulic), easy load stretchers, hydraulic Falcon stretchers, and to include all makes and types of carrying equipment and securing systems.
  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment on vehicles such as audio/visual warning systems and power supplies up to specialized equipment in saloons, repairs to winches and generators, radios, decontamination units and trailers, and where applicable Police vehicles.
  • Be prepared for all future developments and modifications.
Person Specification
  • City & Guilds/BTEC/NVQ3 in Motor Vehicle Technology or equivalent.
  • Accreditation in relevant manufacturers' training courses and Certification of Competence as detailed in job description i.e. Mercedes, Renault, Ferno stretchers, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant vehicle specifications and equipment.
  • Auto Electrical, Welding and Fabrication techniques and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Fleet Workshop policies, procedures and practices.
  • Preparation and repair work to MOT specification.
  • Service, maintain and repair specialist equipment.
Aptitude and Abilities
  • Able to work on own or as part of a team, with minimum supervision.
  • Able to diagnose faults and causes.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Good physical co-ordination and manual dexterity.
  • Written, digital and verbal communication skills to convey information and complete all necessary documentation accurately to comply with audit requirements.
Desirable Criteria
  • Ability to speak Welsh.
