Job Title: Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team at James Lambeth Limited, a regional civil engineering contractor specialising in SAE and river defence, and other civils activities.

Job Purpose:

The role of the Estimator is to produce highly competitive, carefully resourced, and analysed tender costs, ensuring quality submissions to clients. The successful candidate will work on competitive bids, negotiated contracts, and within frameworks, while being aware of company targets for new work and providing profitable, successful bids.

Responsibilities:
  • Regularly communicate with your line manager.
  • Study tender documentation and information provided.
  • Assess the viability of tenders.
  • Identify client requirements and develop the best offer to meet them.
  • Identify risks or ambiguities and discuss as appropriate with the client/engineer to level the playing field.
  • Identify temporary works and design requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and discussions with key subcontractors.
  • Work with the selected designer on Design & Build contracts.
  • Take off quantities.
  • Liaise with the client and client designer when required.
  • Liaise with the Commercial and Procurement Departments during live contracts.
  • Liaise with other staff for support (Design, Contracts, Plant, Senior Management).
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience of estimating within a civil engineering company (desirable).
  • Minimum of 3 years' site experience (desirable).
  • Managing pre-contract programme & progress.
  • Technology skills: IT Microsoft Office skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Business Collaborator (desirable).
  • Full driving licence.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Qualifications: HNC in Civil Engineering or NVQ Level 6 in Construction or equivalent (desirable).
