Job Title: Assistant Director of Waste Management

Our client, a public sector organization, is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to lead the operational day-to-day services of their Waste Management Team on an initial 6-month contract.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of an effective waste collection and disposal service, including initiatives to reduce, re-use, re-cycle and/or recover domestic and potentially commercial waste.
  • Deliver effective street cleansing operations in city centre, seafront, and suburban locations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve waste management services and reduce waste disposal costs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve service delivery goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • Significant experience at senior management level across a broad range of front-line services or a major function.
  • Successful track record of delivering outcomes and shaping services for a local authority or other complex organization within a pressurized political environment and financial constraints.
  • Extensive knowledge of the strategic challenges facing local government.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of council strategy across all service areas.
  • Ability to build effective, collaborative working relationships with partners and stakeholders throughout the authority and across the city.
  • Experience of robust financial management of service or commissioning budgets.
  • Ability to apply commercial and digital principles to their work to achieve outcomes.
Desirable Skills:
  • MUST have experience in large-scale waste management operations.
