As a vital member of the Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) team, the Water and Sanitation Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring access to clean water and sanitation facilities for vulnerable populations.

This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities, from providing safe drinking water to communities affected by crises to establishing sanitation infrastructure in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

The Water and Sanitation Specialist will typically engage in various tasks, including:

  • Leading a team of sanitation workers, hygiene educators, and support staff
  • Identifying sources and distributing clean water to those in need
  • Planning and constructing latrines and sanitation facilities
  • Overseeing the management of medical waste
  • Promoting hygiene practices within communities

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in water and sanitation projects
  • Proven ability to manage, supervise, and train team members
  • Commitment to a minimum nine-month assignment
  • At least three months of experience in developing regions
  • Willingness to work in challenging environments
  • Ability to adapt and collaborate within a multicultural team
  • Strong stress management skills
  • Capacity to provide training and oversight to others
  • Proficiency in English
