Spire Healthcare is seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to provide administrative support to our valued Consultants in Liverpool.
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high-quality secretarial service, including typing clinic notes and letters, answering patient queries, and liaising with Consultants and their secretaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide an efficient secretarial service to all Consultants
- Type clinic notes and letters to General Practitioners and external agencies
- Answer patient queries using tact and diplomacy
- Liaise with Consultants and their secretaries to resolve patient queries/complaints
- Be responsible for at least six Consultants, handling all clinic correspondence, telephone calls, and queries
- Communicate effectively with GP surgeries, other healthcare professionals, and external agencies
- Provide copy clinic letters when needed
- Open Consultants' mail and distribute
- Type discharge summaries and operation notes
- Log all incoming clinic/theatre typing, insurance claim forms, and DWP forms
- Order Consultants' paper and office stationery
- Liaise closely with Outpatient Department, Medical Records, and other departments within the hospital
- Assist in the training of new and trainee Medical Secretaries
- Undergo mandatory training, including fire and health and safety
- Ensure consistent provision of service during holiday/sickness periods
- Contribute to the development of departmental procedures
- Familiarise with company policies and procedures
- Deliver exemplary customer service to all users of the service
Requirements
- Good standard of education
- Excellent communication skills
- Professional telephone manner
- Good knowledge of medical, anatomical, and physiological terminology
- Knowledge of IT systems
- RSA level II or equivalent
