About the Role
The Credit Underwriter role at Funding Circle will expose you to a fast-paced, high-performance lending culture and expand your skill set for a successful career in risk management.
What You'll Do
- Analyse financial data, including annual accounts, bank statements, and credit reference agency data, to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit to small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) borrowers on a loan-by-loan basis.
- Enhance the quality of loan decisions by integrating market, industry, and portfolio insights into your credit decision.
- Develop a deep understanding of SMEs, including accounting practices, industry and financing standards, payment behavior, and relevant legal aspects to accurately evaluate credit risk.
- Provide a best-in-class experience for borrowers by reviewing loan applications efficiently and in accordance with internal quality standards.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of systems, processes, and business practices by sharing recommendations to improve efficiency and capacity.
- Advise and guide colleagues to ensure that commercial opportunities are maximized without compromising Funding Circle's risk management.
What We're Looking For
- An inquisitive mindset, openness to change, willingness to challenge the status quo, and a strong work ethic.
- Experience in credit analysis, preferably in SME lending.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
- A firm understanding of UK accounting standards.
