Position Overview

The role is situated within the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, encompassing various healthcare facilities.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team to deliver anaesthetic services, supporting the on-call schedules as well as daytime elective procedures. The on-call duties will alternate every quarter between general and obstetric anaesthesia, with a current structure involving 10 anaesthetists, dividing their time between on-call responsibilities and standard daytime operations.

All personnel are expected to provide services across the Trust's facilities as necessary. As a member of the Trust, you will engage closely with clinical, medical, and managerial colleagues to ensure the delivery of exceptional healthcare to patients. This includes:

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure comprehensive patient care, including all treatment aspects and relevant management duties for the effective operation of the Care Group.
  • Shared accountability with peers for maintaining 24/7 coverage for the Unit on a rotational basis, including providing support during colleagues' annual leave and unexpected absences.
  • Active participation in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Contributing to audit initiatives and clinical governance activities.
  • Managing outpatient clinic responsibilities in peripheral facilities as coordinated with the Care Group management.
  • Engaging in the Care Group's research initiatives in alignment with the Trust's research and development framework.
  • Contributing to audit programs, morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical governance efforts, and learning from patient outcomes.
  • Conducting all activities within the defined service levels and operational plans.
  • Working alongside clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure staff productivity and job satisfaction are prioritized, which may involve participation in peer appraisal processes.
  • Adhering to all Trust policies regarding infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
  • Preparing for and executing the protective interventions you are responsible for, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practices and patient safety protocols.
