As a Flood Hydrologist, you will engage in a variety of interdisciplinary projects, including flood mitigation studies, river restoration initiatives, flood risk evaluations, and significant infrastructure and development undertakings.
Your responsibilities will include supporting projects related to water bodies governed by the Reservoirs Act, contributing to efforts mandated by the Water Framework Directive, and assisting in the engineering design of hydraulic structures and navigational systems.
You will take charge of producing, analyzing, and reviewing hydrological models, employing standard Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH) techniques, and applying these methodologies to both permeable and pumped catchments, as well as hydrology to assist our reservoir supervising engineers.
Your analysis of low and normal flow conditions will be crucial in supporting river restoration and wetland design, and you will collaborate closely with our hydraulic modeling team.
Additionally, you will aid our Senior Hydrologists in promoting best practices across the organization in hydrological assessment methodologies and provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Your ability to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels will be essential.Candidate Profile
You will possess a BSc/BEng/MEng qualification and be progressing towards chartership.
Your experience in flood hydrology will include utilizing FEH and other recognized methodologies to support engineering design, river engineering, habitat restoration, flood mitigation projects, and surface water management from the pre-planning phase through to detailed construction.
A solid understanding of land development and national planning policies is required, along with strong GIS capabilities using tools such as ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS.
