At Alstom, we are dedicated to understanding transportation networks and the factors that drive mobility. Our extensive portfolio encompasses high-speed trains, metros, monorails, trams, as well as comprehensive systems, services, infrastructure, signalling, and digital mobility solutions. With a workforce of 80,000, we are committed to advancing greener and smarter mobility worldwide, effectively connecting cities while reducing carbon emissions and minimizing reliance on automobiles.
As the leading provider of new trains, train services, and signalling infrastructure projects in the UK & Ireland, Alstom has contributed to nearly 40% of the UK's mainline train fleet and is responsible for all fleets currently operating within London Underground and Dublin's LUAS.
We are undertaking the UK's largest train program in a generation – AVENTRA – for seven of the largest train operating companies, while also ramping up production for the next generation of Greater Dublin's commuter trains, DART+, and constructing 54 HS2 high-speed trains in collaboration with partners. Additionally, Alstom supports 66% of the UK fleet through its Services division and stands as the foremost provider of CP6 signalling and infrastructure solutions.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Vehicle Technician, you will be tasked with performing routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on Aventra Units. You will oversee vehicle examinations in accordance with Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI's) and carry out various maintenance tasks to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and defect-free trains. You will be accountable for maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism in your work and that of your team.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Executing technical maintenance in compliance with established standards and maintenance instructions.
- Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all maintenance documentation prior to validation by the Shift Production Manager (SPM).
- Reporting outstanding work accurately to the Shift Production Manager at the end of each shift.
- Operating powered plant, lifting, and mechanical handling equipment.
- Identifying and reporting any issues related to processes, tools, and documentation to the Shift Production Manager or Facility Management Team.
- Highlighting potential health and safety concerns.
- Adhering to all health and safety legislation and depot procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area at all times.
- Assisting the SPM in achieving quality, waste reduction, delivery, and EHS targets.
- Producing detailed reports on specific fault-finding investigations.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvements and providing feedback to the Engineering team.
- Coaching team members on best practices and quality standards, while supporting the SPM in identifying training needs.
Candidate Profile
We prioritize passion and attitude over experience. While we do not expect you to possess every skill, the following qualifications will be beneficial for your success in this role:
- NVQL3 Qualification or equivalent.
- Demonstrated excellence in work ethic and interpersonal interactions.
- Hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- Safety Critical Competencies.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues.
- Accurate completion of all paperwork prior to supervisor validation.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
What We Offer
We provide a competitive remuneration package, including 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with options to buy or sell holiday. Additional benefits include contributed healthcare, life assurance, an excellent company-contributed pension scheme, and a variety of flexible benefits tailored to your lifestyle.
Alstom is a leader in the mobility sector, addressing the most intriguing challenges for the future of transportation.
