  • Salary: Negotiable
  • Car or car allowance (£660 monthly)

Role Overview: Assistant Quantity Surveyor

This civil engineering contractor is seeking a dedicated and proactive Assistant Quantity Surveyor to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced setting. Based in the Northampton office, you will collaborate closely with the commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular site visits and coordinate with the production team.
  • Assist in preparing and evaluating tenders alongside estimators, ensuring alignment with client needs for value engineering.
  • Provide preliminary cost advice on variations and ensure that only authorized changes are executed.
  • Offer technical guidance on project documentation and drawings.
  • Manage the commercial aspects of assigned projects to optimize value, working in conjunction with Finance and Procurement departments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all commercial responsibilities.
  • Analyze rates and prices, and negotiate variations or compensation events as necessary.
  • Identify potential financial risks and negotiate resolutions with third parties.
  • Forecast monthly and annual profit projections, maintaining accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Understand and apply safety principles on-site.
  • Support the safety team in implementing safety policies and practices.
  • Address safety concerns promptly with the support of the safety team and management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Assist in allocating work to subcontractors and support procurement efforts as needed.

Candidate Profile:

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • Minimum of 7 GCSEs at grades A-C / 5-9, including Mathematics and English.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
  • General understanding of contractual terms within the construction sector.
  • Proficient PC skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Strong mathematical skills and excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Adept at gathering and interpreting data and information.
  • Capability to produce various cost value reports.
