Job Title: Advanced Healthcare Practitioner

North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Healthcare Practitioner to join our team in providing clinical leadership, supervision, and governance to Specialist Paramedics and Nurses engaged in remote urgent and emergency care assessments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical leadership to the Trust's workforce for integrated urgent care.
  • Ensure ambulance clinical quality indicators and key clinical performance metrics are achieved.
  • Offer subject matter expertise in clinical investigations and reviews, making balanced judgments on care standards in line with the Just Culture guide.
  • Deliver the advancing practice program within the clinical validation service and integrated urgent care.
  • Conduct clinical case and practice reviews within the clinical validation service and integrated urgent care.
  • Implement the clinical strategy within the clinical validation service and integrated urgent care, ensuring audit results, investigation findings, research outputs, and clinical education plans enhance practice.
  • Provide clinical advice and support to operational management, quality & safety, research, and clinical pathways teams.
  • Practice according to the four pillars of advanced practice through clinical work, research, education, and leadership to advance professional development.
  • Promote a culture of continuous development, nurturing talents and building strengths within teams.
Requirements:
  • Conduct advanced clinical assessments of patients with complex health needs, ensuring care plans meet these needs.
  • Utilising advanced clinical skills and knowledge defined in the Advanced Practitioner Urgent Care Scope of Practice.
  • Administering or prescribing medication in line with Trust policies and guidelines.
  • Navigating acute and urgent care pathways effectively, including arranging direct admissions when necessary.
  • Referring patients to appropriate care settings and ensuring proper handover.
  • Delivering evidence-based care and maintaining professional standards.
Leadership, Training, and Supervision Responsibilities:
  • Engage in self-appraisal and lead others' development through supervision, mentorship, and reflective practice.
  • Mentor clinicians and support their CPD and revalidation training.
  • Develop systems for feedback to improve clinical care and professional practice.
  • Support training and development activities across the organisation.
  • Undertake statutory and mandatory training as required.
  • Provide trusted supervision and feedback to paramedics, nurses, and other clinicians.
Analytical and Judgmental Responsibilities:
  • Conduct advanced clinical assessments of patients with complex needs and plan appropriate care.
  • Act as a clinical leader with expertise in remote assessment and management of various conditions.
  • Analyse clinical data related to patient care and research activities.
Planning and Organisational Responsibilities:
  • Self-manage and prioritise workload, balancing clinical supervision with governance and development activities.
Policy and Service Development Responsibilities:
  • Promote a positive safety culture by contributing to policy and guideline development.
  • Lead the development of evidence-based SOPs, clinical guidelines, and care pathways.
  • Lead initiatives related to service development that improve patient care.
Financial, Physical, and Information Resource Responsibilities:
  • Manage medicines in line with Trust policies and ensure the security of Trust vehicles and premises.
  • Use Trust equipment, facilities, and premises appropriately, ensuring safety and security.
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations and ensure personal and colleague safety.
  • Participate in mandatory training and maintain awareness of Equal Opportunities and other Trust policies.
  • Participate in the Trust's on-call rota.
