This position encompasses the planning, organization, and execution of a National Genomics service, with a focus on rare and inherited diseases, oncology, and hematological disorders.
The incumbent will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide effective and innovative genomic services, ensuring compliance with National Genomic Test Directory standards. Responsibilities also include offering complex clinical scientific counsel, spearheading research and development projects, managing the service budget, and contributing to the training and development of staff.
The Senior Consultant will engage closely with various stakeholders to ensure the Genomics service functions smoothly and aligns with the overarching goals of the East GLH and the National Genomics Medicines Service.

- Provide specialized guidance on genomic test selection and interpretation, particularly in intricate cases.

- Significant experience as a Senior Clinical Scientist within a Genomics laboratory.
- Experience in service development and implementation, including setting service standards, evaluation, and implementation of new methods.
- Knowledge and experience of quality management systems, including compliance with ISO15189 and UKAS standards.
- Experience in analyzing, interpreting, and reporting complex genomic test results.
- Experience in all aspects of the leadership and management of a genetic diagnostic laboratory.
- Experience in providing consultative advice to clinical colleagues and staff about the investigation, diagnosis, and understanding of genetic diseases.
