About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Development Manager to join our team at Tarmac, a leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business. As a key member of our Strategy & Development team, you will play a crucial role in driving our business forward through strategic planning, market analysis, and deal execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Market and Industry Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research to identify trends, analyze the competitive landscape, and provide strategic recommendations to our leadership team.
  • Portfolio Review: Collaborate with our Strategy Director and business stakeholders to conduct comprehensive reviews of our business portfolio, assessing performance, strategic fit, and alignment with long-term objectives.
  • Divestment Execution: Develop and implement divestment strategies to maximize value, leading the process from market analysis to deal closing, working closely with our finance, legal, and operational teams.
  • Opportunity Evaluation and Due Diligence: Assess acquisition opportunities, evaluating strategic fit, financial performance, risks, and opportunities, including technical, administrative, legal, financial, and commercial assessments.
  • Financial Analysis and Modelling: Collaborate with our Finance team to assess the valuation and financial impact of potential M&A transactions, scenario planning to evaluate various deal structures and outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Work with our Strategy Director to draft presentations and proposals, prepare and review CRH valuation models, and communicate effectively with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Deal Execution: Lead the end-to-end M&A process for small to medium-sized deals, from opportunity identification to purchase agreement and signature, deal closing with related stakeholders.
  • Integration Planning and Management: Develop integration plans to ensure smooth transition and realization of synergies post-acquisition, monitoring integration progress and facilitating post-acquisition reviews.
Requirements
  • Relevant Qualification: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, and/or MBA with substantial relevant work experience.
  • Technical Financial Knowledge: Strong technical financial knowledge and ability to apply specialist skills to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proven Experience: Proven experience in dealing with large development investments and/or M&A transactions, combined with a background in industry or corporate finance.
  • Financial Modelling and Business Planning: Proven track record of financial modelling and business planning.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Strong leadership and collaboration capabilities, with the ability to develop enduring relationships and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Market Insight and Analytical Skills: Excellent market insight, knowledge of key industry trends, competitors, and emerging players, with strong analytical and business acumen.
  • Project Management and Negotiation Skills: Agile and flexible, with strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple competing demands, and excellent negotiation and communication skills.
