We are seeking to appoint a Facilities Maintenance Specialist for a full-time, permanent role within the Physics Building Services Team, which plays a crucial role in supporting all sub-departments within the Physics division.

This team consists of a diverse group of professionals dedicated to various specialties, including maintenance, logistics, compliance monitoring, and renovations of office and laboratory spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance on issues related to compressed air systems and process chilled water.
  • Diagnose faults and coordinate repairs for the aforementioned systems.
  • Manage preventative maintenance contracts for these systems.
  • Adapt and modify systems in response to the evolving needs of the department.

This position reports to the Deputy Facilities Manager - Senior Electrician, who will oversee the allocation of tasks, prioritization, and planning. The successful candidate will work independently and should be adept at managing their workload to ensure that critical safety and operational tasks are completed on time.

The Physics department utilizes a helpdesk system for both reactive and planned maintenance, with the latter managed through a dedicated database. The role involves assessing and maintaining air compressors and process chilled water systems.

About You:

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience with water chillers and associated piping systems, as well as air compressors that supply compressed air to laboratory environments. The ability to modify and install new piping is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to provide outstanding customer service, along with a solid understanding of relevant health and safety regulations. A flexible work approach and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are also required.
